Wow,The sea turtle sanctuary in Borneo is truly the best we have seen anywhere in the world.
Many suggest they are helping turtles. However, based on our global travel experience, the only real turtle sanctuary is in Borneo There is a whole island dedicated to the Turtles of Borneo and with the number of Turtles you will see there, you know they are doing a very good job.
When we visited, we saw over 150 labelled turtle nests. The sanctuary carefully protects each nest from predators.
Turtles face serious challenges. Many predators wait to raid the nests for food after turtles lay their eggs and return to the water. The huge lizards are the biggest predator to the newly born Turtle Eggs.
But that’s not the only problem they have to contend with, when they hatch only a very few survive when they head to the water because of all the predators there too. The Turtles are very small when they hatch, a nice meal for many birds and marine life.
On our trip to the Turtle Sanctuary, we hope to see Turtles hatch, now obviously we cannot promise this they do have turtles hatching most days and we keep in contact with the government officials on the Island to plan your trip when a nest is ready to hatch. This is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life and felt blessed to be able to help collect the baby turtles and help wash them before they are released at night – the safest time as there are few birds around.
After the trip to Turtle Island as we call it, we will then dive around that area, with good chances to see Manta Rays, its worth a shot. There is also some nice Macros and coral around the island. After we have dived we will head back to resort for lunch.
