Diving with Thresher Sharks

Diving with Thresher Sharks is on the bucket list of most Scuba Divers. With their distinctive long, flowing tail it’s very easy to determine a Thresher Shark from any other Shark species.  Watching them swim through the water is a beautiful scene because they move so graciously. We have been very lucky to see Thresher Sharks is various places around the world but the most famous place to go and see them is in the Philippines.
We have also seen them in Egypt, Borneo, Alor and Bali.

The Highest chances of Diving with Threshers Sharks is in the Philippines, it’s a very early morning dive and the dive site gets very busy with divers and many boats. We found that the earlier you get there the better, as you are ending your first dive it gets very busy with all the other boats arriving.

Dive UK Travel trips to the Philippines will give you the very best opportunity to see these amazing creatures before the rush. We will always be the first boat there too.

Thresher Sharks behave differently in destinations around the world, often a very shy and non-inquisitive shark. Meaning they do not often get close to divers, usually they tend to see a diver and swim away but, in the Philippines, it’s very different. The site is a cleaning station meaning the Thresher Sharks are coming up from the depth to be cleaned of parasites by the cleaner fish on the cleaning station.

Sighting are very possible in some places in Egypt, Bali, Alor and Borneo all of which are destinations Dive UK Travel provide Scuba Diving Holiday too. Although sightings are not so frequent there is always a possibility to see them swimming by in the blue. We see 2 in Borneo on our research trip in June 24 and 1 in Alor in July 24. In Bali they can be seen all year round in various locations but you just have to have luck on your side.

The dives are not difficult and max depth is 25m. We would suggest any diver wanting to go to be a PADI Advanced Open Water diver with 50 logged dives and be able to hold good buoyancy underwater. Although the dives are relatively simple you will dive in a group and be able to dive with little supervision. Other dives in the area will also require the above skill set.
