Diving with Dugong

We are also very lucky to be able to see the Dugong in Alor, although you can only see them from the boat and not allowed to jump in with them unlike Egypt. In Egypt the Dugong will be very busy eating all of the sea grass and you can see them act like a hoover while eating. They are very large measuring up to 3m long but they are very fast. They have a dolphin like tails which enables them to swim around very fast and get away from any predators. 

The Dugong acts very much like a dolphins, coming up to the surface to breath. They will often spend up to 10 minutes underwater and then come up for air for 1-2 mins at a time. With very few Dugongs left in the world they are a pleasure to see and on many diver’s bucket list. Like we say they are not so easy to find but Dive UK Travel know where 3 live so it’s just a matter of finding them when we arrive. We like to be very honest with our guests and it’s not always possible but if they are around we will find them for you giving you a once in a lifetime opportunity to share the ocean with these creatures.
